Unique Beverage Syrups for Lapsang Souchong Tea

If it seems like coffee and cocktails get all of the attention around here, than this one is for you, Amoretti tea-lovers! Today, we’d like to profile one of our favorite – and incredibly unique – teas, lapsang souchong.

Lapsang souchong has been around for thousands of years, originating long ago in Fujian, China. It’s an intensely smoky tea that you’ll certainly never mistake for anything else. If you’ve never been much of a tea drinker, you should at least give lapsang souchong a chance. You might be delighted by how “un-tea like” it is.

The taste is somewhere between the smell of a campfire and the smell of cured meat. Intrigued? The black tea leaves are slowly reduced over a campfire of pine or cedar. Then, they’re left out to dry (after more roasting, of course) in bamboo baskets. While drying in the bamboo baskets, they absorb even more pine aroma as the pine needles and smoking rise up into the tealeaf.

Amoretti Premium Crème Brûlée Syrup: This syrup is unique as lapsang souchong itself is. Crème Brûlée has a natural burnt caramel flavor that pairs nicely with the smokiness of this tea. It adds a slight amount of sweetness to a flavor that is naturally intense and smoky. The perfect pairing to make this tea a fine dessert drink!

Amoretti Premium Caramel Syrup: Our caramel syrup is a classic. It’s one we can’t help not pairing with anything smoky. Just as a good dark espresso roast has a burnt caramel flavor, so should a good, dark tea like lapsang souchong. Add a touch of cream, as well, to get a really smooth and unique taste.

Amoretti Premium Swiss Chocolate Syrup: Lastly, many people like to round out the astringency of lapsang souchong with the creaminess of chocolate. We think dark chocolate is too bitter to add to this already bitter tea. So, stick with Swiss chocolate – you can’t go wrong! It’s smooth and mellow – sure to be a great combination.

Well, if you’ve been a longtime reader of the Amoretti Blog, then you know that we’re concerned about your health, but also your taste buds! So, today we’d like to tackle both of those issues with a little discussion about our organic agave nectars.

What are organic agave nectars?

Our organic agave nectars are tea and coffee syrups that look just like the Amoretti Premium Syrups you’re used to. Except, instead of using traditional sweeteners, we use organic blue agave nectar. Blue agave nectar is derived from the agave plant, a natural sweetener that’s been used for thousands of years.

Are they organic?

Technically, the final product is not fully USDA-certified organic. However, the blue agave that we use for sweetness is certified organic. Plus, all of our blue agave coffee syrups are vegan, GMO/GEO-free, kosher, and gluten free.

Why are they better?

None of our Amoretti products use artificial ingredients. So, you really can’t go wrong with any of our coffee syrups. However, our organic agave nectars are ideal for people who are diabetic or just want to eliminate sugar from their diet.

Will they taste the same?

Yes and no. Yes, in the sense that you’re still getting a great tasting coffee syrup from Amoretti that’s packed with all natural ingredients. However, blue agave does have a noticeably different taste from sugar – a taste many people actually prefer. Naturally, agave is much sweeter. What can I do with them?

Everything! Use them as coffee syrups, cocktail mixers, tea sweeteners, and more. If you can do it with an Amoretti Premium Syrup, you can do it with an organic agave nectar.

Do they cost more?

Not really. We sell all of our organic agave nectars in 375 ml bottles, a little more than half the size of most other products. So, you end up paying a little more than you do for our higher priced Premium Syrups, but the difference is minor.
