Amoretti Classic Cocktail #9: The Rum Daiquiri

The daiquiri is one of those drinks that’s developed kind of a weird name for itself. Today, we think of daiquiris as being sweet beach cocktails to enjoy on vacation. Also, the drink recipe took on a life of its own, spawning all sorts of mutant variations. The original daiquiri, however, is really quite a simple cocktail. It was simple (and true?) enough for Ernest Hemingway to call it one of his favorite cocktails (along with the Mojito).

The daiquiri is a through-and-through classic cocktail. It was supposedly created by Jennings Cox, an American engineer residing in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. He took the basic ingredients of rum, lime juice, and simple syrup, and set the world rolling in a new direction!

It wasn’t until 1909, however, that the daiquiri made it outside Cuba. Naval Admiral Lucius W. Johnson was introduced to the drink recipe, and took it back with him to Washington, D.C. It grew in popularity, becoming one of the most-loved drinks of the 1940s when wartime rationing made other spirits harder to come by.

While the classic daiquiri drink recipe doesn’t contain coconut flavor, we can’t help but infuse our version with a little bit of Amoretti Premium Coconut Cream Syrup. If you don’t like the coconut syrup in this drink, you can substitute simple syrup instead!

Easy, right? This cocktail is incredibly simple, but tastes great. Also, if you want to build up your repertoire of drink recipes, we highly recommend committing this one to memory (not too hard). By adding coconut syrup to this drink, you can impress your guests with a little surprising twist. Our coconut syrup (like all of our syrups) taste real. We don’t bother with artificial ingredients or fake sweeteners. Instead, we use real, naturally sourced ingredients to deliver a superior product each and every time.
