Sweet and sour are tried and true, but spice is a pleasure that doesn’t get nearly the same coverage in the world of mixed drinks.

As the summer heat rolls in, we’re cranking the A.C. and shaking up our own sizzling hot drink recipes. The latest recipe we’ve put together indulges one of our more recently developed mixology interests: spice.

Sweet and sour are tried and true, but spice is a pleasure that doesn’t get nearly the same coverage in the world of mixed drinks. This week, our team brought in their favorite hot sauces, fresh spices, peppers, and more. We’ve had more than a few burned taste buds and digestive tracts, but this delicious recipe makes it all worthwhile…

Sizzlin’ Summer Greyhound Drink Recipe

  • Ingredients:
    • 3 oz vodka
    • 1.5 oz white grapefruit juice
    • 7-8 red peppercorns
    • Small piece of thinly sliced ginger
    • 1 ½ tsp white sugar
    • 1 pump Amoretti Premium Orange Syrup

  • Directions:
  • Muddle the red peppercorns in a cocktail shaker. Make sure to really pummel those peppercorns so that all of the spicy flavor opens up! Add the thinly sliced ginger to the cocktail shaker and muddle some more. Add the vodka, grapefruit juice, white sugar, and ice. Shake vigorously, double strain into a small margarita glass, and double check for any chunks of peppercorn. Enjoy!

This drink recipe isn’t going to be popular with everyone. But if you like spicy foods, you’ll probably enjoy this unique cocktail recipe. The white grapefruit juice gives it a high acidity that helps to balance out the heat. Also, the sliced ginger gives it a refreshing spice that’s clearly quite different from peppercorns. Even if you’re crazy about spicy foods, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend pairing this with a spicy appetizer or meal, however. Let this cocktail have the spotlight!

If you’ve never tried our Premium Orange Syrup, then this cocktail recipe is a great introduction. You’ll find plenty more uses for our orange syrup. We love enjoying our orange syrup in a cup of piping hot green tea. In fact, orange and green tea have a long history together, making it one of the world’s most popular citrus-tea combos.

You can also use Amoretti Premium Orange Syrup in any drink recipe that calls for orange flavor. Because this orange drink syrup will last (un-refrigerated) for years, it’s a great product to keep on hand for when you’re in a pinch.
