How to Make Flavored Syrup

Again, we’ll start with the basics, so the following recipe is for vanilla syrup. Ingredients:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

First, combine the water and sugar in a saucepan. If you’ve ever wondered how to make flavored syrup so that it’s not too juicy but not too thick, the secret is to allowing it to simmer over medium high, stirring until you get the consistency you want.

Wait until you remove from the heat before adding the vanilla bean (split lengthwise) and vanilla extract, approximately 10-15 minutes later.

Don’t like vanilla? Whether you want raspberry syrup or coconut syrup, you can make any homemade flavored syrup you want by replacing the vanilla bean and extract with other sources of flavor such as fresh raspberry, cream of coconut, and coconut extract.

While it’s fun to make homemade flavored syrup, it can be time consuming and inconvenient.
