New Summer Cocktail Recipe: Bourbon Papaya Sling

In the technical sense, a sling actually isn’t a “cocktail,” since a cocktail must contain a spirit and a liqueur.

You might know about the Singapore Sling, but have you ever tried a bourbon papaya sling? Considering that we just invented it this week, we’re going to guess that you haven’t. Traditionally, a “sling” is an old American-style cocktail that pairs a spirit with fruit flavors and sweetened or flavored water. Sometimes the water is carbonated, but it doesn’t necessarily have to be.

In the technical sense, a sling actually isn’t a “cocktail,” since a cocktail must contain a spirit and a liqueur. But, we’ll still call our bourbon sling a “cocktail recipe.” The recipe calls for our delicious papaya drink syrup, which lends a soft and mellow fruit flavor unlike anything else.

  • Directions:
  • Combine bourbon, superfine sugar, papaya syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously, and strain into a highball glass. Garnish with a twist of lemon. Why We Love This Cocktail Recipe

This cocktail recipe is extremely simple, yet has a certain gourmet quality that makes it stand out. Bourbon is a wonderful spirit for pairing with fruit since it tends to be on the sweeter side of the whiskey spectrum – as opposed to smoky.

While bourbon pairs well with many sweet fruits, it can be easily overwhelmed by the brighter high-sugar content fruits. Papaya, on the other hand, is a very sweet fruit, but incredibly mellow. Our papaya syrup is made from fruit at the perfect level of ripeness. Because we go straight to nature for our ingredients, customers know that they’ll get great fruit flavor in every single serving!

    Create Your Own Sling

We’d like to encourage you to find your own favorite fruit/spirit pairing and make your own “sling.” Your cocktail recipe doesn’t have to be complicated or obscure. In fact, some of the very best cocktail recipes feature the most obvious pairings. To create your own basic sling, follow these ratios:

    • 2 oz spirit
    • 1 tsp superfine sugar
    • 1 pump Amoretti drink syrup of choice
    • 1 oz citrus juice
    • citrus garnish

Top with soda water or tonic water, if desired.

Share your sling recipe with us on the Amoretti Facebook page.
