It’s hard to beat a good mojito for a summertime cocktail.

It’s hard to beat a good mojito for a summertime cocktail. While we’re fans of the classic, we also like to mix it up with our own interesting mojito cocktail recipes (a recent example being our rhubarb mojito). Today’s featured cocktail recipe took a little inspiration from the rhubarb mojito. It starts with the creation of a simple syrup.

Making Your Own Ginger Simple Syrup

There’s nothing in the world like fresh ginger. Just pick up a bottle of ginger beer at your local specialty grocery store to see what we mean! You can get that same zesty flavor by making your own ginger simple syrup at home. It’s remarkably easy to do. Here’s what you need:

  • ½ cup water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup fresh ginger

And here’s how you do it:

Peel and slice the ginger. Add all ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a boil. Drop the temperature down to medium-high heat and allow the mixture to simmer until the sugar has dissolved. Once the sugar has dissolved, remove the mixture from the heat entirely. Let the syrup cool down to room temperature and then pour the concoction into a glass jar (or other container of your choice), straining out the ginger.

Interesting Fruit Syrups: Orange Blossom Syrup

We use natural ingredients and our products are made right here in Southern California, so you can be assured of quality.

You just made ginger simple syrup! Pretty easy, right? Now for the drink recipe…

A basic mojito has four components: white rum, lime, simple syrup, and mint. While the mojito is great, we enjoy adding to it. Ginger and mint make for a great pairing, but it doesn’t quite hit the spot entirely for us.

That’s why we’ve also included one of our hard to find floral syrups, Amoretti Premium Orange Blossom Syrup. Don’t expect a robust, zinging citrus flavor out of this floral syrup. Rather, it’s soft, balanced, and delicate, complimenting the mint and balancing out the ginger. Check out the cocktail recipe below…

Add mint sprigs to a cocktail shaker with white rum. Muddle well. Add remaining ingredients to the cocktail shaker and fill with ice. Shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

We’d love to see what kind of mojitos you can create at home. Have fun and experiment with the basic mojito recipe. Share your variations with us and other Amoretti fans on the Amoretti Facebook page.
