Though the Cosmopolitan may not be a “classic” in this sense, the drink has certainly established itself as iconic. Traditionally made from vodka, triple sec, lime juice, and cranberry juice, there’s really not much to dislike about the Cosmo. We’ve streamlined the whole process with our Cosmopolitan Martini Cocktail Mix, which features the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness.

But before we get to the drink recipe, let’s cover some of the facts about this tried and true cocktail…

Variations of the Cosmopolitan were first created in the 1970s, in both Provincetown, Massachusetts and San Francisco, California, though the bartenders didn’t actually refer to their pinkish vodka concoctions as “Cosmopolitans.” It seems that the real cocktail recipe was developed in South Beach, Florida, just outside of Miami, by bartender Cheryl Cook.

Cook saw many of her female customers ordering martinis in the 1980s just to have the look of the martini glass. In an effort to giver these customers a drink they would actually enjoy, Cook ditched the vermouth and opted for a sweet and sour route instead. She used Absolut’s new bottle of Citron, which was being tested out in the Miami market at the time, to create the Cosmopolitan.

Her original recipe, in her own words, is as follows: “Absolut Citron, a splash of Triple Sec, a drop of Roses lime, and just enough cranberry to make it oh so pretty in pink.” Thus, the Cosmopolitan was born.

Though Cook’s original recipe is absolutely perfect (and highly recommended), we’ve created a cocktail mix to streamline the whole process. All you need is vodka and Amoretti Cosmopolitan Martini Cocktail Mix to make it happen! Unlike other Cosmopolitan cocktail mixes, ours isn’t overly sweet but focuses on real fruit flavor instead.
