Try These Exercises in Creativity Before You Make Gourmet Drinks
If you love to make gourmet drinks, then you know it’s easy to get stuck in a creative rut. Perhaps you fall in love with one type of specialty coffee that doesn’t lend itself well to variation. Or, maybe you have a favorite specialty coffee syrup, and you only know one or two ways to use it.
Creativity isn’t easy. In fact, it can be quite tough to be creative – and stay creative. While your gourmet drink abilities may be overflowing one day, you might be fresh out of ideas the next. So, if you’re stuck in a creative rut, check out these tips we’ve found to help get the creative juices flowing again.
These tips don’t just apply to baristas and mixologists. Writers, painters, decorators, and more can benefit from these exercises in creativity!
- Be conscious of your language. Try different experiments in your speaking and writing. For example, you may try to have a conversation for fifteen minutes without using the words ‘I’, ‘me’, or ‘my’. Harder than you might think! Or, if you want to practice alone, write a friend an email that doesn’t use any of these words.
- Say ‘yes’. Unless answering ‘yes’ would cause you any serious harm or inconvenience, spend an entire day answering ‘yes’ to people. Your day will turn out far different than it normally would.
- Next time you meet a new acquaintance, ask them questions, and see how long you can get them to talk about themselves without becoming aware of it. This is another great challenge that can be trickier than you might expect!
So, do those three suggestions sound odd enough to you? We challenge you to give at least one of these experiments a try this week. We bet that you will notice a difference in your level of creativity and – as a result – your ability to make gourmet drinks!
If you want a suggestion that’s more directly related to our specialty coffee syrups, then we recommend picking up a bottle of the most unlikely syrup that you would ever purchase. Perhaps you like dirty martinis? If so, you’re probably not that likely to buy Amoretti Premium Crème Brûlée Syrup. But, incorporating such an “unlikely syrup” into your drink recipes could be a terrific exercise in creativity!
