Most of the country is experiencing record cold and/or record snowfalls this winter. We are going to have at least two more months of cold, blustery weather and nothing warms the body, feeds the soul, and keeps you going until lunch like a bowl of hot whole grain cereal.

For added protein, replace the water in the cereal cooking instructions with milk or a milk alternative like soy milk or almond milk.
Breakfast should ideally help you start your day with focus and energy, so for a nutritious breakfast that leaves you more satisfied and better nourished than the average packaged breakfast cereal, consider buckwheat. Buckwheat contains all eight essential amino acids and packs 41g whole grain into one serving.
In a medium sauce pan, bring 3 cups of water to a boil and add ¼ tsp of salt. Stir in 1 cup of buckwheat, reduce heat, and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Cover the sauce pan, remove the pan from the heat, and let it stand for a few minutes. Makes four ¾ cup servings.
For a tropical style topping, combine 2 sliced bananas, ¼ cup toasted unsweetened coconut, ¼ cup chopped macadamia nuts, 1 tsp of Amoretti Cinnamon Oil Extract, and the juice of 1 lime in a medium bowl. Cream of Wheat/ Cream of Rice
Cream of wheat and cream of rice are whole grain farinas with a smooth texture. Similar in texture to grits, but made with ground whole grain wheat or brown rice kernels instead of ground corn.
Bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add ½ tsp of salt. Gradually add ¾ of a cup of the cereal, stirring constantly with a wire whisk until it is well blended. Return mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and simmer uncovered for 2-1/2 minutes or until thickened, stirring frequently.
For a delicious topping, loaded with protein, combine ½ cup of part-skim ricotta cheese with 1 pump of Amoretti Organolicious Premium Blue Agave Nectar and ½ tsp of Amoretti Lemon Zest Oil Extract. Top each bowl with the ricotta cheese mixture and garnish with a sprig of fresh mint.
